4 March 2011 – Keith will be speaking about the war in Afghanistan at the 6 Billion Ways event in London tomorrow.
Keith, who is on the European Parliament’s delegation to Afghanistan said: “Im keen to let people know about the reality of Britain’s war in Afghanistan. The horrifying figures speak for themselves: 1 in 5 children die before their 5th birthday, the average life expectancy is 43, and 1 in 4 refugees dealt with by UNHCR are Afghan.”
“So what is to be done? I am calling for an instant change of approach which must include an end to military intervention, commitment to investing in sustainable development, a halt to NATO’s centralised approach and true institution building. We must recognise that Afghans need to determine the future for their country, but that the UK also has a responsibility to support them to do this. We must all continue to hold our governments to account for the brutal war and demand a better future.”
