26 September 2011 – As a member of the European Parliament’s transport committee Keith opened the Smart 2 Wheels event in Brussels on Thursday. The event was designed to promote cycling across the EU and examined the ways in which policy and business obstacles to cycling in cities across Europe can be overcome.
In his speech Keith highlighted the benefits that cycling can have for health, air quality and reduced emissions. Keith also shared the example of the ‘bike train’ that he visited in Hove – a supervised bike ride to school organized by local parents – to illustrate how positive initiatives can make cycling safer, more convenient and more fun! The event was a great success with many people coming by to try out different types of two-wheeled travel and to learn more about air pollution and the benefits of cycling over other forms of transport.
