Green MEP insists Boris must be sacked as Iranian state TV uses his comments against Hampshire mum

Keith Taylor, Green MEP for the South East, has renewed his call for Boris Johnson to be sacked as the row over a devastating blunder, that could see Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s face another five years in jail in Iran, intensified following the Foreign Secretary’s refusal to apologise for comments that are now being cited by Iran state TV as an ‘unintended confession’ and ‘proof’ of the allegations against the Hampshire mum.

The senior Green politician said:

“Boris is a tedious joke that has long since run its course. His unpreparedness and tendency to make things up on the spot without a care for the truth is a dereliction of the responsibility of high office and, worse than that, it has demonstrably endangered the life and liberty of a British citizen.”

“It’s shocking that he has not apologised nor fully rectified his unministerial blunder – especially now that Iran state TV is using his words against Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. In the immediate term, the Prime Minister needs to ensure the UK Government is doing everything it can to bring Nazanin home. Going forward, it’s time to acknowledge that when the Foreign Secretary is not actively imperilling the lives of British citizens – he is making Britain a laughing stock on the international stage.”

“For the safety of UK citizens and the sake of our diplomatic standing in the world, the Prime Minister must sack Boris Johnson.”
