Keith Taylor, Green MEP for the South East, was delighted to take a day from campaigning against oil and gas drilling in the region to attend the official opening of the Rampion Offshore Windfarm in East Sussex.
The event took place at the i360 on the Brighton seafront.
Rampion Wind Farm comprises 116 turbines on a 70 square kilometre site located between 13 and 20 kilometres off the Sussex coast in the English Channel.
Fully operational, it will generate enough low carbon electricity to power the equivalent of around 350,000 UK homes. This is equal to almost half of the homes in Sussex.
The renewable energy source which will produce 1,400GWh a year will help save 600,000 tonnes of carbon emissions being released into the atmosphere.
At the event, Mr Taylor said:
"It's nice to take a break from supporting the campaigners on the frontlines fighting against climate-destructive oil and gas drilling in the South East to support the realisation of a positive energy project in our region. Renewables are the only way forward."
