Petitioning European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker “Don’t scrap the EU’s Clean Air Package”:

Rumours are circulating that the President of the European Commission Jean Claude-Juncker will scrap the EU’s Clean Air package.

These rumours come in the same week that the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee urged the UK Government to get to grips with air pollution.

Scrapping the EU’s Clean Air package to limit air pollution, at a time of increased scientific and medical understanding of the enormous risks that air pollution represents to public health, would send out completely the wrong message.

Allowing air pollution to go unchecked would mean sentencing children and adults to poor respiratory health and earlier death.

Air pollution is second only to smoking as a killer and every year 400,000 Europeans die prematurely due to air pollution.

We call on European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker to keep this crucial piece of legislation in order to protect the health of our 507 million European Citizens.
